Trip participant's journal entry
Today was our first day in the hot
July semi-tropical sun. Mike wanted us to wait until late afternoon
to go on our first hike. So, we went beach combing in the morning,
swam in the ocean, and got used to our surroundings. Even though
it was 4:30in the afternoon when we went on our hike, it was still
hot! We went on a hike through a nature preserve. The area protected
was a Florida scrub forest and a mangrove forest next to a brackish
water tidal waterway. We found lots of fiddler crabs and learned
about how the mangrove trees spread their fruits.
